(My) Most Anticipated Movies of 2012

Bonjour mes amis,

Lately my senioritis has really kicked in, and I’ve found myself watching a unhealthy amount of TV and movies. I’m super excited for this summer, because a ton of excellent movies are supposed to come out this year. So today, I bring you my TOP 6 MOVIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2012 LIST OF EPICOSITY! So lets begin…

1) The Avengers (May 4th)

What it is: When supervillain Loki reemerges with a plan that threatens the fate of the Earth, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury assembles a team of the world’s most powerful heroes to fight back.

Why you should care: Iron Man , The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America… it’s all been leading to this. Marvel has spent the past few years individually building up each of its franchises for this superhero smorgasbord, and based on the film’s impressive trailer – which showcases great-looking action and convincing chemistry between the many leads – the effort was worth it. Some Marvel films (Iron Man) have been better than others (Iron Man 2), but it’s hard to imagine how director Joss Whedon could drop the ball this close to the end zone.

Watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPoHPNeU9fc

2) Prometheus (June 9th)

What it is: A team of explorers fights a battle at the edge of the universe in order to save the human race.

Why you should care: With both Alien and Blade Runner under his belt, Ridley Scott is one of the undisputed kings of Hollywood sci-fi, and lingering rumors that Prometheus will somehow cross paths with the Alien franchise have fans champing at the bit. The screenwriting presence of Damon Lindelof—one of the minds behind TV’s Lost—doesn’t hurt either.

3) Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (June 22nd)

What it is: Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.

Why you should care: It’s freaking Abraham Lincoln, murdering the crap out of freaking vampires! What could possibly be better than watching the greatest president of all time killing the sparkles out of Edward Cullen? Nothing – that’s what.

4) Dark Knight Rises (July 20)

What it is: Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Gotham City is threatened by the menacing terrorist Bane, forcing Bruce Wayne to put on the cape and cowl once again.

Why you should care: Christopher Nolan’s third and final entry in the Batman franchise, which started with Batman Begins and set the gold standard for superhero films with The Dark Knight, has already amassed a deafening level of hype, and rightly so. Though The Dark Knight’s terrifyingly amoral Joker will be impossible to replace,The Dark Knight Rises comes loaded with potential, including villain Bane (Tom Hardy) and antihero Catwoman (Anne Hathaway). Though much of its storyline remains shrouded in mystery, the film’s “prologue,” which is currently airing before select IMAX screenings ofMission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, features a tense, gripping airplane stunt that’s as thrilling as anything we’ve seen in the series. Trust Nolan to bring his franchise to the definitive ending it so richly deserves.

5) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (December 14th)

What it is:Hobbit Bilbo Baggins joins a group of dwarves to reclaim treasure stolen by a fearsome dragon.

Why you should care:Peter Jackson set the template for the modern blockbuster franchise, pleasing Lord of the Ringsvirgins and superfans alike with his stunningly well-realized adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved trilogy. Though The Hobbit is a lesser book than any of the Lord of the Rings novels, it’s hard to resist another invitation to Middle-Earth. And with Jackson at the helm once again, and the promise of returning cast members like Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, and Sir Ian McKellan, this adaptation (and its sequel, coming next year) should flow perfectly into theLord of the Rings trilogy.

6) Django Unchained (December 25th)

What it is: A former slave attempts to rescue his wife from a Mississippi plantation.

Why you should care: Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-nominated Inglorius Basterds was a thrilling, audacious revenge flick cleverly disguised as a World War II film. Django Unchained applies the same methodology to the Civil War era, with Leonardo DiCaprio playing against type as a barbaric villain. Like most of Tarantino’s films, many of Django Unchained’s details are still being kept quiet, but we can expect the usual: great acting, sharp dialogue, and a killer soundtrack.

Happy movie watching everyone!

Tupac Digital Resurrection!

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre headlined the Coachella music festival this weekend, and it was everything you would expect from a Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performance. Billowing white smoke clouds wafted through the air as numerous homies joined the rap legends on stage whilst the performed all sorts of west coast diddys. It was all pretty ordinary… until this guy showed up:

[WARNING: NAUGHTY WORDS AHEAD!]

Did you see that? That was the glorious and triumphant return of THE Tupac Shakur!

Ok, so it wasn’t really the return of Tupac so much as it was the introduction of hologram Tupac, but it was still very impressive. If you look closely, you can even see the “thug life” tattoo on his stomach! I bet a whole bunch of middle class white kids like me thought it was real the second he started yelling out “Coachella”.

As impressive as it was, its fabrication seemed glaringly clear when Snoop Dogg joined the stage. Visually, it was one step above Rodger Rabbit – a hardcore, ghetto Rodger Rabbit… It doesn’t matter though, because I’m sure it was an unforgettable experience. HoloPac played a few songs before disappearing in a puff of smoke (or possibly feathers?), then real life 50 cent, eminem, and Wiz Khalifa joined the stage.

The company behind this awesome idea is called Digital Domain Media Group Inc. They are the ones responsible for last year’s hologram Mariah Carey Tour in Europe. There is talk of a holoPac tour to come, but nothing is certain at the moment.

So if this technology takes off, does it mean that one day I might be able to see Nirvana rock out at TD Garden? Or maybe I’ll be able to see Jimi Hendrix set his guitar on fire right in front of me! If I had my pick, I’d want to see the Sublime with Bradley, Led Zeppelin with John Bonham or The Beatles reunited.

What dead musician or celebrity would you like to see digitally resurrected?

I’m on a Horse – Doo Doo Doo Doot Doo!

Yoo00 – What a Gwan?

Rusko’s Very Dubby Dubstep

Hallo,

Last week I came across this 20 minute radio mix for BBC Radio 1, and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. First of all, it’s made by Rusko – one of my favorite musicians by far. Second off all, its really good! Now, anyone who knows me probably knows that I like dubstep, but lately I’ve been getting really bored with it. Stuff like Skrillex and any music where you dance like  you’re having a seizure is really unappealing to me. Instead, I’ve been really into Dub/Reggae, and this mix is right up my alley!

So if you like reggae, dub, or dubstep (preferably all 3) than give this a listen! Leave a comment and let me know what you think about it.

Enjoy,

Tim

Steve Aoki Comes to Boston This Thursday!

That’s right ladies and gents, Steve Aoki and Datsik are coming to the Boston House of Blues this Thursday, Feb. 17th! This is pretty big news, because Boston, at least in my opinion, sucks majorly for live music of this sort.

If you listen to the top 40-type music, you probably know who Steve Aoki is. If you don’t, please come out from the rock you live under, and watch this youtube video:

This is one of my favs: Steve Aoki and Afrojack- No Beef:

Steve Aoki is the Japanese guy with the cool mustache..

And Datsik is this creepy looking guy right here:

I don’t think he has any music videos yet, but here is a song by him:

If you like this kind of music, consider buying a ticket now, because I’m sure any remaining tickets will be gone by the day of the event!

Happy vallytimes day everyone!

Best Music Videos of 2011

Hey yall,

Welcome to the first Tuesday Blog of 2012! (I actually just wrote 2011, and had to go back to change it… I’ll probably be doing that until May).

EDIT: HEY I JUST REALIZED THIS IS THE 200th BU CENTRAL BLOG POST – SAY WHAAAATTT!?!?!

It’s already been a month, but I think it’s appropriate to take one last look back at 2011. Here are some of my picks, in no particular order,  for the Best Music Videos of 2011. Also, I’m going to link you to the video instead of embedding it on here, since this blog already loads waayy to slowly!

1) Duck Sauce – Big Bad Wolf

First of all, Duck Sauce is awesome. Second of all, they have heads instead of genitalia. WARNING: Might be NSFW! Although I’m not really sure…

2) LMFAO – Sexy and I know It

I’ve blogged about this video before because I find it so hilarious. RedFoo and SkyBlu shake their stuff, a bit too much in my opinion, but hey, at least they work out.

3) Katy Perry – Last Friday Night

Katy perry brings together Blaine and Artie from Glee, Rebecca Freaking Black, Hanson, Kenny Mother Flippin’ G, and Corey Feldman(did you catch the references the Lost Boys?) to make an awesomely star-filled music video.

4) Rihanna – We Found Love ft. Calvin Harris

This video tells the story about how doing drugs and drinking alcohol will lead to awesome concerts, technicolor cigarettes, and bathing with your clothes and shoes still on. I think that’s what it was supposed to be about…

5) Beastie Boys – Make Some Noise

The only video that could possibly fit in more celebrities than Katy Perry’s. To name just a few of the famous faces you’ll see: Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Susan Sarandon, Rashida Jones, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Ted Danson, Roman Coppola, Steve Buscemi, Amy Poehler, Alicia Silverstone, Kirsten Dunst, Maya Rudolph, David Cross, Orlando Bloom, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jack Black… That’s about 1/2 of them.

PS: The link above is just the music video. For the Full, 30-min video, click here.

6 ) Superchunk – Crossed Wires

Cute kitten video! That is, it’s a video made by a cute kitten, who, actually turns out to be a complete badass. You’ll see what I mean.

7) Foo Fighters -Walk

A video about the worst day ever. ever.

8) Is Tropical – The Greeks

When I was a kid, I used to have pretend firefights with my friends and toy guns. But it was never quite as awesome as this!

So There you have it, my picks for some of the best music videos of last year. I’m interested to know what your favorite video of last year was. Comment on this post and tell me!

‘Til next time,
Tim

Getting Melodies Out Of My Head

Haldo adventurers,

The past two days, I’ve had two songs stuck in my head like no one’s business. They really have nothing in common, except that they both have awesome saxophone parts. In hopes of getting these melodies out of my brain, I’d like to share them with you!

1) Caspa & Rusko: Girl From Codeine City (FabricLive 37)

2) Dev: In The Dark

And now that you’re probably fast asleep, because regardless of how much I like those songs, listening to them makes me very sleepy…

I’ll leave you with this. Its another song that I’ve been pretty addicted to this week. It doesn’t have a sax, but its still great.

3) Silvio Ecomo & Chuckie: Moombah (Afrojack Remix)

Happy Humpday everyone!

Random Music Video Wednesday!

Hello, Everybody!

So I wanted to write a blag today with a relevant theme and make it all nice and whatnot, but that idea really didn’t pan out. Today is hump day, and honestly, I don’t have the energy to write an awesomely well thought out blog today. I bet you feel pretty much the same right now, huh? I bet that what you really want to do right now is to watch some awesome, possibly funny videos, and then maybe take a well deserved nap. Welp, I think that is a great idea! I’ve been doing some research for you friends, and I’ve found some stuff that I think you’ll really take a liking to… So sit back, relax, and enjoy!

1) Kid Cudi – Day ‘N’ Night

I’ve heard this song a bajillion times, but I’ve never seen this video. Maybe it’s just because I’m a sucker for some good animation, but this was surprisingly amazing.

2) LMFAO – Sexy and I Know It

WARNING: SHOCKINGLY AWKWARD, YET KINDA HILARIOUS CONTENT AHEAD. You have been warned…

3) Its Time for the Perculator

These guys can seriously move. And this song goes better with their dancing than the original one (at least I think so). Prepare to slightly chuckle your face off!

I hope that this has helped give you the energy you need to push through today, and make it over the the other side of the hump (day, that is)!

Live long and prosper,
Tim

Is it Getting Hot in Here? Celebrating the Anniversary of the Great Boston Fire of 1872

‘Ello lovelies!

As I’m sure you all now, today, November 9th, marks the 139th year anniversary of the Great Boston Fire of 1872. If you are unfamiliar, the fire started on Summer Street, and destroyed about 65 acres of downtown Boston (776 buildings and much of the financial district. It caused $73.5 million in damage (which was a crapton of money back then).

Today also marks the publication of the first ever issue of the Rolling Stones Magazine. Rolling Stone “is not just about the music, but about the things and attitudes that music embraces.” Rolling Stone has featured journalists such as Hunter S. Thompson, who would first publish his most famous work Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas within the pages of Rolling Stone, and also helped launch the careers of many prominent authors.

So, in order to celebrate the anniversary these two momentus occasions, I give you 4 of my favorite classic rock songs about fire!

4) Fire – Bruce Springsteen: Great song from the Boss. The bass line is super catchy.

3) Smoke on the Water – Deep Purple: Ok, I really don’t think of this as one of my favorite songs, but I have to include it on this list just because everyone and their brother knows about this song. Also, did you know that the song is based off a true story? Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention were playing a show in Switzerland, when all of a sudden the synthesizer caught on fire. Then some d-bag shot a flare gun into the ceiling, setting the whole building on fire! The members of Deep Purple watched the smoke from the destroyed building and sound equipment pour across the waters of Lake Geneva. Crazy huh?

2) Light my Fire – The Doors: Classic.

1) Fire – Jimi Hendrix: This song is clearly talking about… well, you know… Lighting someone’s fire *wink wink nudge nudge*… right? WRONG! This song is literally about Jimi Hendrix being cold, and wanting to stand next to someones fireplace to warm up.The story goes that there was a dog in the way of the fire place, hence the line, “Aw, move over, Rover, and let Jimi take over…”. I bet I just blew your mind right there.

Joo Lyke!? I hope so! Happy Wednesday everyone!

Hoy es: El Dia de Los Muertos

Hola there readers,

Did you know what today is? It’s the day of the dead! This day, also known as All Souls’ Day, or dia de los muertos, is a Mexican holiday where dead friends and relatives are remembered and prayed for. Sometimes people make altars with food and drink laid out for the dead. The most notable part of the tradition is the sugar skulls they make. You may or may not have made them as a class project in your 7th grade Spanish class. They look like this:

Adorable, and tasty!

They look like this if you have recently taken a psychedelic drugs.

The usual traditions are to bake some special breads, make some sugar skulls, and to dress up!

This might be one of my favorite holidays, but only because some people dress up like complete BAMFs. Check out some of these costumes:

Cool mask bro!

Hototototot!

F**kin' Magnets... how do they work?!

If you would like to see how these kick-arse face paintings are done, watch this video. Check out her channel for tutorials as well.

song = ‘Cinema (Skrillex Remix)’ By Skrillex

Ok, so now you have all the tools you need to celebrate today! Interestingly enough, this would probably make a super Halloween for next year.

Happy death day to you,
Tim

PS: TONIGHT AT BUC (Basement of GSU): Sigma Kappa Cookoff. Starts @ 8:30: Chili and Pie, with a performance by Aural Fixation and Fusion.
