His name is Skrillex

Hey everyone,

So if you haven’t heard of him yet, Skrillex is a DJ thats been becoming more and more popular. He looks like this:

Lately he has been featured at festivals like Coachella, and the Snowball Festival in Colorado, and his shows are selling out bigger and bigger venues. Skrillex is kind of a mix between… um, well… I’m not exactly sure how to describe it. I’ll let him introduce himself.

Skrillex – My Name is Skrillex

I’m actually writing about him because the other day I bought tickets to his show in June, where he’ll be at the Palladium in Worcester. If you’re interested, I think tickets might still be on sale. Check out his website for ticket info.

Better go now before this guy seriously blows up. He is currently signed to mau5trap records, the label created and run by deadmau5. Since his first self-released EP (from which the above track came), he has released another EP called Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites under mau5trap records. Here’s the title track from that one, which is much more intense, aka, much more awesome!

Skrillex – Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

Annnnnd here is one more song that I just really like.

Skrillex – Cats Rats

Ok, now turn the volume up and enjoy.

Th-th-th-that’s all folks!

It’s Friday, Friday, Gettin’ down on Friday (Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun)

Hey readers,

So its finally the weekend!  If your anything like me, you’ve been pretty busy this week. Seeing that its near the end of the school year, I can imagine that many of you are starting to feel really burnt out. I know that all I want to do is go home, watch movies and sleep all day. Unfortunately I can’t do this just yet. Its times like these when I turn to my very good friend, Mr. Steve Aoki. He can always pick me up when I’m feeling down. So in the spirit of keep on keepin’ on-ing and pushing through to the end, here are a few songs that give me that extra boost of energy (can also double as a get-the-F-up-and-party-playlist):

Steve Aoki & Sidney Sampson – Wake Up Call

DJ Aoki teamed up with Dutch DJ Sidney Sampson to produce this spic track. The teaser video was directed by Jason Beattie (who has made tons of other music videos) and features actress Michelle Rodriguez & actor Clifton Collins. Here’s the teaser trailer:

If you liked it, here is the full track:

Aaannnd also, here’s a filthy dubstep remix from DJ Datsik:

Steve Aoki & Afrojack – Show Me Your Hands

Not much I can say here.. It is interesting to note, however, that Afrojack is also a dutch DJ!

Bloody Beetroots ft. Steve Aoki – Warp 1.9

A track off their first and only studio album, Romborama. Steve Aoki does the bloodcurdling screams (and he even does it in slow motion)

Ok peoples, enjoy! I’ll see you here next week.

Bassnectar Does Remix

Why hello there,

How goes it? Is your mother well? Ah, good to hear!

He has some crazy ass hair! (not crazy ass-hair)Anywhozels, Ive been exploring the music blogosphere and lately there has been several new remixes from the master of dubstep, Bassnectar. The last few remixes he did combined music of other genres, particularly rock songs. I personally love these songs because it combines my two favorite styles. I grew up on rock music, and now I love me some dubstep. These songs are like a little slice of heaven for me! Ok, I know you’re excited to listen, so here we go!!!

Seek and Destroy – Metallica

Where Is My Mind – Pixies
Great song by itself, but add a little bass and its just so much better!

Run The Heart – Sleigh Bells
(Ok so maybe this one isn’t really rock, but this is perhaps my favorite song here)

Prince – Deftones
Sorry, didn’t feel like uploading this mp3… awkward video that’s just a picture instead!

Ellie Goulding – Lights
This one is super chill – the low rumble in the background and this girls voice almost puts me to sleep.

Have a most totally tubular weekend, dudes and dudettes!

Random Music Friday: Celebrity Tributes

Hia guys and gals,

Here is a riddle for you: What do Michael Jackson, Bruce Willis, Barbra Streisand, David Bowie, and Clint Eastwood have in common?
A: They are all the central theme for some of my favorite songs!

This week, I want to try something new: instead of just picking any random song from my library, I figure a little structure is necessary. So the theme for this blog will be Random Celebrity Tribute Songs!

Here is a list (in no particular order) of some of my favorite random celebrity tribute songs:

1) Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand
Duck Sauce is a DJ duo made up of A-Trak and Armand Van Helden. This song is their biggest hit, at one point reaching #1 on the chart for its genre.

2) The Scofflaws – William Shatner
Apparently the Scofflaws were Trekkies! They decided to write a whole song about Mr. Shatner and his role as Captain James Kirk.

3) Mr. Oizo - Bruce Willis is Dead
No, he’s not really dead, but this guy decided to write a song ahead of time. I guess he wanted to be prepared when the occasion arises? Mr. Oizo is one of my favorite musicians (I actually had the chance to see him in NYC last weekend. He was on the dance floor while the opening band played, and I got to dance rigth next to him – one of the best shows I’ve ever been to ever!), and I find this song to be super catchy. Although, I think it would be better without that guy going “WOOOOOooo’ all the freaking time….

4) Flight of the Conchords - Bowie
Since Jemain and Brett talk alot about Bowie in space, I think this song is probably about David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” If have ever heard the Flight of the Conchords before, you know how hilarious they are. This one is just as strange and funny as any other!

5) Boys Noize – This is Michael Jackson  + Cocotte
More like an intro to another song, but close enough. I don’t know what it is about these DJs, but

6) Gorilliaz - Clint Eastwood
So alright, no actual mention of Clint Eastwood in the song, but I’m sure you can relate it to him somehow. I just really love this song.

mmkay then, enjoy! ‘Til next time!

From the Basement

Hey there cats and kittens!

What’s great about working at BU Central is that you can sit in the booth and watch as many as (wait lemme count) FIVE screens simultaneously. In front of me some über-cutesy alternative chick is prancing around in a sun dress on mtvU; Luigi, Donkey Kong and Snake are duking it out on the big screen in an intense Super Smash Bros match and behind me Yoshi, Princess Peach and Link are doing the same. But the screen that has my utmost attention is the lil lap top in front of me. There’s a great website that I happened upon called none other than From the Basement (WOAH BU CENTRAL IS IN A BASEMENT!!!). This podcast turned television show turned website hosts live performances by stellar bands, many of which are my faves, including The White Stripes, Eels, Thom Yorke, My Morning Jacket, Architecture in Helsinki and MANY MANY MORE!! What’s interesting about this show is that there’s no host! Just the band. Your eyes and ears, and the band.

Here are my faves…

(I’m posting the videos via youtube but you guys should visit the actual website! Linked above)

Beck- Motorcade

The White Stripes- Ugly As I Seem

Eels- Millicent Don’t Blame Yourself

Radiohead- 15 Step

MtvU ain’t got shit on this.

I hope all of you can have a mind blowing weekend, even if you do it from a basement!

LOVE ABBY!

bonus track… this is a GREAT SONG that I found delightedly on my iPod today! FIVE STARS! YEAH!

Yeti- Midnight Flight
