Don’t Worry, Be Happy: 15 Sunshine-filled, Feel-good Songs to Boost Your Pre-Finals Spirits

I know, I know; you’re stressed. You had four papers due this week and eleven midterms and sixty-two chemistry problem sets and then your car caught on fire and you broke your leg after you tripped over your shoelaces (even though you were wearing flip-flops), and life just sucks.

But given the option, which would you prefer: to wallow in pre-finals self pity, or to feel as happy, relaxed, and without-worry as a cat anesthetized with ketamine? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

With finals just around the corner, it can be extremely easy to get yourself caught up in the hype and forget that no matter what, you’re still going to be well and breathing in about two  weeks from now. Get those teeth away from the bloody little nubs that used to be your fingernails and just try to remember that everything will be alright!

In order to try to calm some of those poor suffering nerves of yours, here is a playlist of 15 songs meant to soothe the soul with sunshine. These tunes always boost my mood, and hopefully they can give you some relief, as well!

Spread happiness,

Allison

Relaxation Time: Three Tracks to Help You Reach Your Personal Ultra-Chill Zone

After spring break and midterms and the high stress of the first half of the semester, I’ve been needing many a nap session as of late. To help me drift off into my Ultra-Chill Zone, I’ve been playing the following tracks crazy often. Maybe they can help all y’all drift into your own Ultra-Chill Zones, too?

First up is “Easy High” from Swimwear Yeah. A bizarre band name, yes, but an incredibly chill background that has me feeling like I’m drifting in the clouds.

Next is new band Vacation with “Good As New”. Pretty and smooth and perfect perfect perfect.

Lastly is Handsome Boy Modeling School with their Cat Power-featuring track, “I’ve Been Thinking”. Aside from the ultra-smooth backing track, Cat Power’s milky vocals are giving me seriously positive vibes. Not exactly a new track, but an amazing one nonetheless.

There ya go. Have a great week, y’all!

Audio Tryptophan

In honor of my favorite upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving, I would like to tell you about the one thing that makes you sleepier than a stomach packed with turkey. Allow me to introduce Marcony Union’s “Weightless” also known as the most relaxing song in the world.

Sound Therapists and Marcony Union, a ambient music trio hailing from England, compiled the song using  specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. The study, created by the bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa, showed that “weightless” worked within the deepest levels of the brain. Activity was visible not only in the sound processing areas of the brain but in the areas associated with emotion.

Leading UK brain specialist Dr David Lewis states, “‘Weightless’ induced the greatest relaxation – higher than any of the other music tested.”

This song was so relaxing that drivers are advised against listening to it in their cars – there’s a chance they can fall asleep at the wheel.

That is what I call results. Therefore, I believe Marcony Union’s “Weightless” is the audio equivalent to tryptophan in Turkey.

Okay…so studies show tryptophan isn’t the sleep inducer we assume it is. Nevertheless, I’m going to continue believing the myth and deny the fact that my sleepiness is cause by unhealthy amounts of carbohydrates and fats.

But either way you get my point right? :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
