Local Natives of Phoenix wear Sleigh Bells made of Santigold.

But not actually.

I don’t know if any of you use this app, but if you don’t and you like music, you should definitely get it ASAP. Songza is an app that’s actually exactly like Pandora, except it matches the time and day to different scenarios you might be in at the moment, ie. working out, studying, hanging out with friends, partying, etc. and then it gives you playlists that have music that’s perfect for the moment. You can also search different genres if you’re not feeling any of the options Songza is giving you, so don’t worry. :-) But anyways, I was browsing through the scenarios the app gave me one day and I decided to listen to the playlist Mainstream Indie, and I loved it so much and it gave me a whole new array of artists to listen to. I personally suggest ALL of the songs, however I decided to share a few of my favorites. The playlist features Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, Arcade Fire, Lykke Li, and many other similar artists. The songs I chose to share with you all today are Airplanes, Lisztomania, Rill Rill, Disparate Youth, and because I really love this song, I’m adding it last minute, Lonely Boy.

Airplanes // Local Natives

Lisztomania // Phoenix

Rill Rill // Sleigh Bells

Disparate Youth // Santigold

Lonely Boy // The Black Keys

I don’t really know how to describe any of these songs, although they’re great for basically whatever you’re doing, whether you’re taking a nap (like I always am), hanging out with friends, or studying, and if you like Vampire Weekend, Lykke Li, Regina Spektor, MGMT, The Ting Tings, Bon Iver, Miike Snow, Grizzly Bear, etc. then I definitely recommend these five artists and the rest of the Mainstream Indie playlist on Songza–and even if you don’t, the app has such a huge variety of music, it’s great for anyone!

Enjoy! :-)

Bassnectar Does Remix

Why hello there,

How goes it? Is your mother well? Ah, good to hear!

He has some crazy ass hair! (not crazy ass-hair)Anywhozels, Ive been exploring the music blogosphere and lately there has been several new remixes from the master of dubstep, Bassnectar. The last few remixes he did combined music of other genres, particularly rock songs. I personally love these songs because it combines my two favorite styles. I grew up on rock music, and now I love me some dubstep. These songs are like a little slice of heaven for me! Ok, I know you’re excited to listen, so here we go!!!

Seek and Destroy – Metallica

Where Is My Mind – Pixies
Great song by itself, but add a little bass and its just so much better!

Run The Heart – Sleigh Bells
(Ok so maybe this one isn’t really rock, but this is perhaps my favorite song here)

Prince – Deftones
Sorry, didn’t feel like uploading this mp3… awkward video that’s just a picture instead!

Ellie Goulding – Lights
This one is super chill – the low rumble in the background and this girls voice almost puts me to sleep.

Have a most totally tubular weekend, dudes and dudettes!

BU Central Summer Soundtrack

Welcome to the new BU Central blog! Here is where all of the BU Central staff will bring you into their music world in all different ways. Check back regularly for posts about new bands, catchy songs, killer shows, must have playlists, and of course, to find out what’s going on at BU Central.

For my first post, I thought I would put together a playlist of what we have been listening to all summer in BU Central. As we have been planning events for the fall and putting on orientation dance parties, these five songs make up the soundtrack to our summer.

1. Chiddy Bang – All Things Go

Chiddy Bang easily wins as the most played artist in BU Central. We listen to his mixtape, “The Swelly Life” on repeat, especially on our arts & crafts days. This song samples Sufjan Stevens – Chicago (shout out to you, Rose!).

2. Usher – OMG

This song is insanely catchy and one of our guilty pleasures.

3. Sleigh Bells – Tell ‘Em

There was a point during the summer when this song was played at least five times or more a day. Once we got our new sound system, you better believe we had Tell ‘Em blasting for everyone to hear.

4. Major Lazer – Pon De Floor

At Orientation dance parties, the clip of this song that DJ Case played would get us on that dance floor almost as quick as OMG did. Okay, maybe quicker. Turn it up and dance.

5. Lady GaGa – Bad Romance

Thanks to our lovely friends at Orientation, we learned the dance to Bad Romance, which is why this song deserves to have the video posted as well. Now imagine BU Central packed with Orientation leaders, and of course the BU Central summer staff, all doing this dance. Paws up, little monsters.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:
1. Far East Movement – Like a G6
2. Foxy Shazam – Oh, Lord!
3. Katy Perry – California Gurls
4. Little Boots – New in Town

… and because this was the inspiration of our themed night.
5. Lady GaGa & Beyonce – Telephone

It’s been an eventful summer here at BU Central and I can’t wait to share everything that has been going on with all of you! I hope you enjoy (and dance to) these songs as much as we have. Stay tuned for more posts and big BU Central announcements!!
