The Wombats burst onto the British indie rock scene in late 2007 and I’ve been following them fervently ever since. Their debut, The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, mixed ridiculously clever lyrics with believable angst, a combination that made the album the official soundtrack to the majority of my high school years. I still can recite nearly every word of that album, and I can only hope I’ll soon be able to say the same about their recently released second album, This Modern Glitch.

The new album experiments with new genres a bit more than the previous one. Electronic influences are especially evident on first track “Our Perfect Disease” and current single “Techno Fan,” the latter of which can be heard in the video below.

Upon several listen-throughs already, I fear that This Modern Glitch does not have the staying power of their immaculate debut, but I’m still finding much to enjoy in it. One particular standout is “Walking Disasters,” which is posted below.
