Local Natives play for Boston locals

As the early autumn sun fell behind the towers that surrounded Boston’s City Hall, Mayor Tom Menino took the stage to thank the new collegiate crowd for coming to the fall iteration of the festival and more importantly, to introduce Local Natives. Opening with “World News,” the crowd was instantly rapt in the sunny strums of the guitars that sent waves of nostalgia for the summer that was just left behind. The band was both baffled by the size of the crowd in contrast to their humble beginnings and the Mayor’s introduction. With two albums to date, many songs from both were played including “Airplanes,” a goose bump-inducing performance of “Columbia,” and closing the act with “Sun Hands,” which had the entire audience jumping.
