Volcano Choir, the indie love child of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Collections of Colonies of Bees, released their second album, Repave, last month.
While the Wisconsin natives directly transport you into the fall and winter seasons, Repave envelopes you with layers of Vernon’s vocals and ambient soundscapes.
The album artwork perfectly captures the building rise and dramatic crash of each song, particularly “Byegone.”
Although Volcano Choir’s Repave is a beautifully constructed and intricate album, I can’t help but think that it’s a Bon Iver teaser. Coming off of “Skinny Love” and “Holocene,” it is hard to completely fall for Repave without wanting more from Vernon.
