I had the great pleasure of seeing Ari & Mia Friedman perform a few weekends ago at Gallery 263 in Cambridge and I was absolutely blown away.
You know how people usually dress like the kind of music they listen to? Well, I’m all over the place as far as the music I listen to, but I dress like a swaggie poser. I am sure that it was a hilarious sight to see a girl like me, dressed the way I do, absolutely enthralled with the sound of a banjo and cello.
Seriously though, they are the best folk group that I’ve ever seen live. I was completely blown away by the simplicity of their tunes and how the lyrics seemed to find a safe place in my brain. The gallery was packed with Ari & Mia’s wonderful fans, who hooted and hollered after every velvety, earthy tune, exclaiming their love for this duo. Towards the end, I joined in as well.
The sisters have a new album out called Land on Shore, which is available on bandcamp. It’s an overall earthy, low-toned album, that’s good for a rainy day. My favorites are “Glad You Came” and “Turn Me Round”. Check them out!
